Throughout the 14C. and 15C, 'ales' were a feature of the communal life
of many villages in England. This scene is an impression of one such event
held outdoors during the warmer part of the year.

This reconstruction shows the basement of a country house being used,
as originally intended, for cleaning game and as a 'gun-room'. The house
is Castle Drogo in Devon.
